Galvanized Iron vs. Red Iron

Not All Metal Buildings are Created Equal

Over the years most commercial warehouses, factory facilities, storage facilities, and commercial barns have, through tradition, been constructed using soft American and Imported Red Iron for the main framing of larger structures.  Due to some of the disadvantages associated with the Red Iron, there has been an increasing demand by the industry for Steel and Galvanized Steel components to construct these needed facilities. The ever-growing construction industry has met that need and yet many of today’s consumers are not aware of these new advantages and how much they can benefit from them.   The benefits are exciting!

Steel and Galvanized Steel Components tend to weigh less and are not as bulky as Red Iron.  This helps not only in the cost of shipping but in the actual erecting/construction as well, cutting down on labor cost.  To better understand this point, note that the cost of Red Iron components can sometimes be cheaper than the Steel Products, but you can quickly lose that advantage when you factor in the added cost to have your unit erected/constructed.

Galvanized Steel has an even greater advantage because it undergoes chemical processing in order to make it corrosion resistant. It is coated with layers of zinc oxide which will provide it with a protective surface that can protect the metal from rusting and give it a more durable and scratch-free finish.  Galvanized steel is created from submerging steel into melted zinc. This process allows the zinc to permanently bond to the metal, not only on the surface but within the steel itself, making a secure and complete bond. When it is finished, the layer of zinc is able to protect the metal by fighting rust. Galvanized Steel does not require it’s surfaces being painted to protect from rust and gives your completed facility a much cleaner finish.

Galvanized “Tubular Steel” has advanced the industry even further and has become widely used in today’s construction, machinery, coal, chemical, railway vehicles, automobile industry, roads, bridges, containers, sports facilities, agricultural machinery, petroleum machinery, and prospecting machinery manufacturing industry. Galvanized tubes are a lower-cost alternative to stainless steel to achieve rust free protection for up to 30 – 50 years while maintaining comparable strength with a durable surface coating. Galvanized tubes can be cut, machined, or welded by common methods used for regular steel. In addition to its superb corrosion resistance, using pre-galvanized square tubing for projects offers a number of other advantages, as well. Some of these benefits include:

  • Low maintenance requirements for lower long-term costs
  • Galvanized coatings last up to 50 years
  • More resistant to damage during shipping, processing, and installation
  • Galvanizing covers all internal and external surfaces to provide complete protection
  • Speeds up construction by eliminating the need for on-site preparation

SAFEGUARD Metal Building uses Galvanized Tubular Steel in the construction of all their units.  They provide two different gauges, both 14 gauge, and the heavier 12 gauge.  There is an upgrade charge for the 12 gauge (upgrade, however still very economical as opposed to the red iron). That allows “you” the customer the option to choose which gauge you would like as you design and customize your new metal building!  SAFEGUARD’S professional and efficient installers are trained in this modern movement and construction of galvanized steel buildings. Enterprise Center of Giddings, Texas is honored to represent this manufacturer and showcase Safeguard’s quality workmanship.

Enterprise Center of Giddings, TX also offers the largest outdoor display of galvanized steel buildings in the entire state of Texas! We welcome any and all to come and see firsthand the benefits and advantages that galvanized tubular steel buildings have to offer!  Enterprise Center would love to sit and assist you with the customization and designing of your new modern galvanized metal building using our 3D Design Illustrator! Watch your idea come to life right before your eyes! Take part in the new and ever-growing construction industry of galvanized metal buildings.
